Why Modern Family’s Tad Looks So Familiar
Finally, in 2022, Greg Kinnear took to Apple TV+ to help tell a gruesome true crime story in “Black Bird” Season 1. The miniseries follows James Keene (Taron Egerton), a man who has been offered a chance to end his ten-year prison sentence if he can get a confession from suspected killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser) . Kinnear portrays Brian Miller, a detective working on the Hall case who is loosely based on Detective Gary Miller (via The Cinemaholic), the actual detective who worked on the case.
Kinnear spoke about it during the press tour for “Blackbird” (via Screen Rant) and noted that he had never heard of this true story, despite growing up very close to where some events have happened. Discussing whether or not he’s drawn to true crime as a genre, Kinnear explained: “Really, I really am not. I didn’t know that story, despite the fact that I literally come from a little town about 15 miles up the road from where Larry Hall lived.” The veteran actor continued, “It was handed to me in script form. I didn’t go down Google’s rabbit hole, I just read it and enjoyed the power of storytelling so much, the individual characters and the quality of everything that was crafted. I felt a real responsibility – I think we all did – to try to say it right and to be respectful to people who have lost children.
