Vin Diesel star “F9” to screen at Cannes film festival in July
Cannes, June 7 (IANS): The next star of Vin Diesel “F9”, the latest release in the “Fast & Furious” franchise, is the Hollywood “blockbuster” that the Cannes Film Festival authorities have promised to screen at the gala, to be held July 6-17. of this year.
Since Cannes chef Thierry Fremaux told Variety that the upcoming 73rd festival will project a “planetary blockbuster,” a guessing game has started among the global press on which film he was talking about. Fremaux teased the media at a press conference on June 3 when the official selection was announced at the festival this year, claiming that the blockbuster in question was not “No Time To Die” or “Dune” or “West Side Story,” which were among Hollywood’s most publicized films slated for release later this year.
The preview of “F9” in Cannes in the first week of July also makes sense as the film is scheduled for release on June 25 in the United States.
“F9” stars Diesel with a powerful cast including John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. The film already had its international release on May 19 and has grossed over $ 250 million worldwide to date, Variety reports. In Cannes, the film will have a public screening on the beach for delegates as well as locals and tourists. The cast are not expected to make it to the premiere due to the ongoing pandemic.
