The Most Anticipated DC Projects Release After The Batman (2022)

The Batman proved that DC Comics movies could still succeed at the box office and it opened the door for Warner Bros. superhero movies. to continue his recent list of successes. With the Snyder movies clearly in the rearview mirror, DC and Warner have finally begun to see both critical and financial success, and there are several great HBO Max movies and shows in the works for fans.
Many of these movies were coming while Zack Snyder was still at the helm of the DCEU, but Warner Bros. revamped a few to steer DC in a new direction. Other versions to come play more in the wheelhouse of The Batmanwith two sequels to the film and a possible upcoming spin-off as well.
ten Black Adam (2022)
black adam has been in development for a very long time. Dwayne Johnson attached his name to the lead role in 2014, but the film suffered several delays and it wasn’t until the latest delay with the pandemic that the film added a hugely interesting twist.
The Justice Society of America will feature in this film, with Doctor Fate, Hawkman, and more making their DCEU debuts (per Screen Rant). This will be the next DC movie to hit theaters on October 21, 2022, and fans have been waiting a long time to see The Rock as a superhero.
9 Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2022)
Only 8 weeks later black adam debuts in the DCEU, his greatest enemy will return in his second film. Shazam! Fury of the gods will arrive in theaters on December 16, 2022. The film seeks to bring back Shazam and his family, who are all superpowered beings now.
David F. Sandberg returns to direct the Shazam! sequel, which wrapped filming in 2021. Two big names will join the cast, making the film even more exciting, with Helen Mirren as Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso, Daughters of Atlas.
8 Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was originally supposed to arrive a month later the flash but has been revamped for a March 17, 2023 release date. Fans should expect to see something similar to the first film. That means lots of fun, wild superhero battles, and an ever-cool Jason Momoa in the lead role.
James Wan is back as director, so it will hopefully start 2023 in style for the DCEU. In bad news, the Aquaman spin-off movie The trench was cancelled, but fans still have lost kingdom to look forward to.
7 Lightning (2023)
The follow-up of Justice League was always going to be the flashand Zack Snyder had plans to Breaking point to change the DCEU. However, Snyder had to end his Justice League films with just the first of the planned trilogy and the flash arrives a little later than originally planned, in theaters June 23, 2023.
This movie is rumored to change everything fans know about the DCEU, much like it did for Flash in the comics. The Flash will change the timeline, Michael Keaton will return as the older Batman, which will also give Ben Affleck his final appearance as Batman. The expectation is great.
6 The Blue Beetle (2023)
A surprising addition to DC’s movie slate is a theatrical release based on the Blue Beetle character. It won’t be the classic Beetle, who was scientist Ted Kord, but it will be the younger Blue Beetle that Teen Titans fans are familiar with, Jaime Reyes.
Little is known about the film apart from signing Angel Manual Soto to direct the film and Cobra Kai actor Xolo Mariduena playing the role of Jaime in the film (by The envelope). The film also has a release date, with blue beetle in theaters August 18, 2023.
5 Matt Reeves’ Arkham Series (date TBC)
There have been big changes since The Batman was a box office and critical success. For one, the upcoming Gotham PD series on HBO Max has been canceled for now. Director Matt Reeves said they’ve put that on the back burner and will be bringing a different show to HBO Max (per Variety).
It’ll be the one based on Arkham Asylum, and it’s an HBO Max series that Reeves says will almost feel like a twisted inmate horror story. With Riddler and Joker both in the hospital afterwards The Batmanit could bring some of Batman’s greatest thieves to the small screen.
4 Batgirl (date to be confirmed)
Another HBO Max exclusive is coming soon with bat girl. This film has undergone a lot of changes since its announcement. Joss Whedon was supposed to realize it, but he is absent and the team of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (bad boys for life) will lead.
The cast is what makes this film so interesting. Leslie Grace will star as Batgirl, but rumor has it that JK Simmons will reprise his role of Judge Leauge as Commissioner Gordon and Michael Keaton will return as Batman, so what Earth will it be on.
3 A series of penguins (date to be confirmed)
The breakout character of The Batman was Colin Farrell’s penguin. Almost unrecognizable under the makeup, Farrell has made Penguin his own and fans haven’t seen the last of this Batman villain. With Falcone gone at the end of this film, a hole opened up in the criminal underworld.
In the comics, Penguin was always a low-level mob boss who wanted something bigger for himself. He now has that chance, and HBO Max will be bringing the character back to a series where he’ll likely begin his rise through the ranks of Gotham City’s underworld (per Variety).
2 Wonder Woman 3 (date to be confirmed)
Wonder Woman 1984 did not receive the same critical acclaim as the first film in the series, and the pandemic release hurt it at the box office, as it received a day-and-date release on HBO Max. However, despite the disappointment, there will be one final film in the trilogy.
According to Variety, Patty Jenkins will return to direct the third film with Gal Gadot reprising her role as Wonder Woman. Lynda Carter will also be returning for the film as Asteria. The movie is supposed to start filming in 2023, so no release date has yet been announced.
1 Peacekeeper Season 2 (date to be confirmed)
When James Gunn announced he was making a Peacemaker series for HBO Max, it was confusing. While John Cena was solid as a character in The Suicide Squadhe was an unlikable character who killed off one of the team’s greatest heroes, leading viewers to wonder how he could ever work as a lead on a show.
However, Gunn did not disappoint. Peacemaker was a huge hit on HBO Max, a series that was funny, offbeat, violent, and found itself a fan favorite. Fans and critics loved it so much that HBO Max wasted no time in signing Gunn to bring a second season of the series to the streaming service (per The Hollywood Reporter).
