There was a Motown compilation TV commercial featuring elated fans telling how much they love Smokey Robinson. And you know what? They still do, and Smokey Robinson performs at the 2022 Stagecoach Country Music Festival.
In some ways, this isn’t a big step for Stagecoach, who has booked more than your typical country artists since its inception and leaned in to bring out the legends of the desert. One of the best sets I have ever seen at the festival was Tom “It’s not unusual” Jones in the Palomino tent in 2019, and Robinson’s reservation is not far from that.
But Robinson is part of the most diverse and inclusive Stagecoach programming to date, with more women, more people of color and more LGBTQ artists. It’s even diverse with the Robinsons. In addition to Smokey, the poster also features the Robinson brothers from rock band The Black Crowes. I wrote a little on the takeaways of the program as well as the news with the full lineup of lineup, ticket information and more.
Stagecoach isn’t the only lineup announcement this week. We also have details on Nocturnal Wonderland returning to Glen Helen in September.
However, something else is coming back that is impacting live music again: COVID-19. The Foo Fighters had to postpone what was supposed to be a triumphant return to the Forum on Saturday because of it, and Celine Dion and Harry Styles are pushing back dates scheduled for this summer.
But there’s still plenty of music to see at the OC Fair, which returns this weekend and features shows at the Hangar and the Pacific Amphitheater. Read on!
Yee haw, all of you
Carrie Underwood is back. Thomas Rhett too. The Stagecoach Country Music Festival released the 2022 event lineup this week and you’ll see a lot of familiar names. See the full lineup and find out how to get tickets.
No more country … and rock and R&B
Stagecoach 2022’s lineup is unlike any we’ve seen in the history of the festival. It’s more inclusive and features everything from a Motown legend to southern rock superstars. This is what makes Stagecoach 2022 different.
Up all night
Insomniac released the lineup for Nocturnal Wonderland, which returns to Glen Helen in September. The bill includes Deadmau5, Flosstradamus, Claptone, AC Slater and more. See the full lineup and find out how to get tickets.
Fight more than the flu
The Foo Fighters were scheduled to play the Forum in Inglewood on Saturday July 17th. However, the concert was postponed due to COVID-19.
His show will continue … later
Celine Dion has postponed her Courage world tour again. Citing concerns about COVID-19, the summer dates in Southern California have been moved to April 2022.
The OC Fair opens this weekend in Costa Mesa and many concerts are planned. You can see Flaming Lips, Brantley Gilbert, Cheap Trick, X and more at the Pacific Amphitheater shows. If acts of homage are more your thing, here’s who plays at the Hangar and how to get tickets.
