Shirley Young obituary (1945 – 2021) – Mount Clemens, MI

Shirley A. Young was born on August 31, 1945 to Claude and Annie Young in Florence, Alabama. She attended Burrell Slater High School in Florence and graduated in 1963. After her parents passed away, she eventually moved to Mt. Clemens, MI.
Shirley accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and often reflected on the faith and steadfast prayers of her dear mothers. She attended Christian Life Church and served on the Elders Luncheon Committee.
With a pleasant personality, a beautiful smile, and a determination to succeed, Shirley attended and completed her studies at the Detroit Institute of Commerce founded by Louise Grooms. The aim of the institute was to prepare minority students for a successful career in business. Shirley went on to work for Attorney Persons (one of the first black attorneys in Detroit, MI), Wayne State University and General Motors where she retired in 2002 after working for thirty-three years as an administrative assistant and design-for-manufacturing coordinator. team which also allowed her to travel to Mexico City for a special mission which she greatly appreciated.
In her spare time, she enjoyed talking to her daughter Monique several times a day, shopping with her, and enjoying great breakfasts, dinners, and trips. Shirley has traveled to Canada, Brazil, Mexico City, Europe, England, the Bahamas (one of her favorite destinations for many years) and several other places throughout her life. She had the biggest heart and was generous in times of need. She loved and supported her family on many occasions.
Shirley left this life on December 1, 2021, after a short illness. She was predeceased by her parents Claude and Annie Young; one brother Moman Young and seven sisters, Azlee Brewer, Nettie Simpson, Gloria Winchester, Mae Jeffie Young, Clidy Smith, Myrtle Banks and Josephine Ricks.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, only daughter and son-in-law Monique and Houston Young, brother, Lincoln Young and three sisters, Ocene Morris, Alice Fields and Helen Scott, godchildren, Ernest Morris and Robert Jones and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends for a long time.
Shirley has always believed that you only have one life to live on this earth and her motto was to live life like there is no tomorrow. She enjoyed her life, traveled throughout her life, and thanked God throughout her life. She was a blessing to many. May we cherish his memory.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main Street, Mt. Clemens. The funeral will be on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. (institute 10:30 a.m.) at Christian Life Church, 24877 21 Mile Road, Macomb. Shirley will be buried in Clinton Grove Cemetery, 21189 Cass Avenue, Clinton Twp, immediately after the funeral service.
