Richard “Dick” Johannsen, 91, of Hudson passed away at Comforts of Home on May 14, 2021.
Dick was born in Hudson on June 5, 1929 to Peter and Alice Johannsen. He graduated from Hudson High School where he was captain of his boxing team.
In 1953 he married Shirley M. Johnson. They then had seven children.
In 1991 he retired from 3M. He and Shirley have traveled a lot. Multiple cruises, trips to Hawaii and Panama City Beach, FL each winter for 24 years. He and Shirley have made many trips across the country on his Goldwing. He also made trips to Sturgis with his sons.
Dick will remain in the heart of his wife, Shirley; children: Sue, Frank (Lynn), Larry (Angela), Cheryl (William) Vogel, David (Carmen), Bob (Kathy) and Mary; grandchildren: Justin, Erin, Drew, Ashlee, Brad, Shaina, Trevor, Casey, Misty, Ryan, Victoria, Anna, Kaitlin and Collin; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jane (Bill) Slater and Helen (Lloyd) Erickson; and his brother, Jim Johannsen.
He is predeceased by his parents; brothers: Walter, Howard and Russell; and sister-in-law, Mickey Johannsen.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the O’Connell Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson with a visitation one hour before the funeral home service. Her funeral will be broadcast live – please see the funeral home’s website for details. Interment in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials can be made at Coco’s Heart Dog Rescue, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Carmelite Monastery, or at the donor’s choice.
