Piers Morgan compares Sir Keir Starmer to Bridget Jones’ Mark Darcy
Arguably that was quite the start of their fiery Good Morning Britain talks.
While interviewing the Labor leader on his ITV Life Stories series, Piers referred to claims that Bridget Jones’ diary character Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth in the film) was based on him.
With author Helen Fielding going to college with Mr. Starmer, that wouldn’t have been too much of a stretch, but for the curious – she denied it.
“You were a pretty dashing human rights lawyer, sparking rumors that you were the inspiration for the character of Mark Darcy from the Bridget Jones novels,” Piers said.
– One of your friends was quite upset, saying you were prettier than Colin Firth. There’s a great quote here from a site called “My Barrister Boyfriend” they featured you on their hottie list. ‘
The 56-year-old continued, “In their article they said, ‘We suspect Keir is overflowing with manly passion.” Are you overflowing with manly passion?
Mr. Starmer, 58, laughed: “Still brimming with manly passion!”
We’re not sure where to go from here.
Theories have long circulated that the leader of the Labor Party was the muse of Bridget Jones author Helen, who created the famous character in her bestselling series of novels.
After all, she went to college with Sir Keir, and there are significant parallels between the politician and the character. Both belong to the upper class while Sir Keir was a lawyer and former director of public prosecutions and Darcy a human rights lawyer.
However, Helen put an end to this theory completely.
Speaking on Desert Island Discs, the author said, “I had several different boyfriends, all very gorgeous.
‘It’s amazing how many people claim to be Daniel [Hugh Grant’s character] or Mark, including Keir Starmer. ‘
However, Sir Keir never claimed to be the inspiration behind Darcy although he addressed long-standing rumors earlier this year.
In an interview with ITV News, he said: “Everyone asks me this question when they should be asking it. [Fielding] because she knows the answer and I don’t.
“It’s been a rumor that has been going around for years, but honestly I don’t know the answer … Of course I would. [be flattered]. But honestly, I don’t know.
We’re not sure Mark is suitable for politics anyway – we love him the way he is.
Piers Morgan’s life stories are available for catch-up on the ITV hub.
