North Cheyenne Canyon Road closed in May
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The North Cheyenne Canyon Road would be closed Monday through Friday. This closure began on May 3 and will last until May 28.
The North Cheyenne Canyon Road is closed to all guests, but the trails will still be open for “non-motorized recreational use”. Gold Camp Road would be open to hikers, cyclists, horse riders and motor vehicles less than 50 inches in width.
The city says the closure will allow them to move building materials for a parking improvement project.
This temporary closure is due to a boulder blocking Gold Camp Road and blocking construction vehicle access to the road. The USDA Forest Service is continuing work to assess and remove the boulder.
The parking lot project will improve and expand the gravel parking lot above Helen Hunt Falls. Current parking will be reduced from 75 non-designated spaces to 92 designated spaces. Concrete curbs and gutters will apparently be added, as well as a paved asphalt surface and accessible parking spaces.
Gold Camp Road, from the northern edge of North Cheyenne Cañon Park to Helen Hunt Falls, will also be closed daily on these dates.
