New York State Police had their busiest weekend ever
New York State Police and local agencies have been busy earlier this month. According to reports, there were a large number of impaired driving issues specifically on Super Bowl weekend.
Between February 11 and 14, police departments across the state issued 919 impaired driving tickets and more than 26,000 other tickets issued for various offenses including distracted driving, speeding and seat belt violations.
New 10 in Rochester reported that:
New York State Police issued 599 speeding tickets over Super Bowl weekend as part of their Stop DWI campaign that ran from Friday through Monday. Of these notes, 212 were issued in the Finger Lakes region. There were also 14 local DWI arrests.
The Syracuse area has also had its share of arrests. Auburnpub.com reports that:
In Troop E, which covers Cayuga County and the Finger Lakes region, 14 people were charged with DWI, 212 were given speeding tickets, and 53 were charged with other offenses, including violations of child seat and seat belt.
As we prepare for the start of summer 2022 and the start of concert season, police will be watching and patrolling New York State. The best plan is to have a ride home or have a carpooling app on your phone to get home safely!
