John Cena SPILLS the beans on how Vin Diesel got him on board; REVEAL crucial details about her character
With Fast and Furious 9, the Fast family is back for even more thrills and car madness, all wrapped up in colorful characters and exotic locations from around the world. In the next movie, we see Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty settle for a quiet family life completely off the grid with young Brian. In the meantime, they are thrown back into a world filled with danger and action, this time facing a dangerous threat, which brings old wounds to resurface for Dom in particular.
John Cena joins Team Fast to play Jakob Toretto, Dom’s long-lost younger brother burning with feelings of revenge on him. Speaking about how Team Fast approached him for the role, the wrestler / actor expressed how much of a miracle it seemed to him. “I have been approached to meet Vin on several occasions. He just wanted to talk and get to know me. And those conversations made him wonder if I wanted to be welcomed into the family. And finally, he offered me the role of Jakob Toretto. Which, starting with the beginning of this statement: someone contacted me and wanted me to meet Vin Diesel is so mythical and then the events afterwards are so unpredictable, so crazy. It’s all surreal, man. It’s been a long time coming, but Fast & Furious 9 is finally about to hit theaters and the surreal is about to get very real, very soon, ”he said.
Speaking about his character Jakob, Cena added, “My skills include being stronger, faster, smarter than Dom. So, for the first time, Dom has an enemy that not only has all of his skills, but has a greater ability. Still, I think here’s the kicker, and I really like it: I also represent Dom’s past. And it may be that people take the position that there is some metaphorical symbolism that you really cannot run away from your past. And if you’re not ready to take on some parts of it, you may have to if you want to move forward. And here we have Dom Toretto going through the early stages of fatherhood, but he hits – pun intended – a roadblock because he’s unable to address this moment in his past. I love that the past that he hasn’t faced is his lineage family and the fact that he’s now facing an opponent who is more talented than him in every way.
F9 is directed by Justin Lin, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Daniel Casey. It is the sequel to The Fate of the Furious (2017), the ninth main installment and the tenth feature film to be released in the set of the Fast & Furious franchise. Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Chris Bridges (aka Ludacris), Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron will reprise their roles. As for the new faces, John Cena joins Cardi B and Ozuna to add to the star-studded lineup.
Fast9 is slated to hit theaters across India on August 5 in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada if the COVID-19 pandemic situation permits.
