From wrinkle creams to hair dyes, our world is full of anti-aging products that tell women that aging is not our friend. Fortunately, actress Andie MacDowell challenges that notion.

The Housemaid The actress has long been an advocate of aging and the evolution of beauty. More recently, she announced that she was proudly done with dying her hair and loving her naturally stunning silver look.

The actress revealed to People that her sister’s “full money” made her “jealous” because “she looked so much prettier” with that shade of hair. When the pandemic hit, it gave the L’Oréal Paris spokeswoman time to reassess her hair situation. “During COVID, I could see the roots with my face, my skin, and my eyes, and I loved it,” she admitted. “I felt like I would be happier. And I’m happier. I really like that.’

Fans are applauding her for not conforming to the beauty standards set by society, let alone looking good by embracing her natural hair. This prospect also allows him to celebrate his 60th birthday in a refreshing way. “I’m 64 and this is the time of my life,” she said in the interview. “Eventually, I’m going to be money. And I wanted to have that experience of feeling what it is.

Embracing her natural hair color is part of a larger effort to be more comfortable in her own skin as she ages. “Your belly also gets bigger with age. And I had three babies,” she said. “I have to constantly work to love this part of my body. It’s so hard.’

MacDowell is also passing on these life lessons to her daughters, Rainey Qualley, 32, and Margaret Qualley, 27, teaching them to be “kinder” to themselves. In fact, they now know to keep their mother in check when it comes to self-esteem, too. “If I ever say anything demeaning about myself, because I taught them not to, they’ll say, ‘Why are you doing what you told us not to do? “said MacDowell.

Although she says it’s a “constant daily” to be kinder to herself, she’s becoming more and more successful each day. “Aging is a really, really intimate educator for loving yourself,” she says, “because you can’t stop it.” It will happen; MacDowell shows everyone how you’re never beyond your peak, and how practicing self-love can go a long way towards living your best life in your 60s and beyond.

MacDowell isn’t the only celebrity to lean into her natural hair color. Stars like Jamie Lee Curtis, Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda proudly rock the hue.

We look forward to hearing MacDowell’s great wisdom. Until then, catch her luscious gray locks in her latest film, Along for the Ride on Netflix.
