LOS ANGELES – Helen Mirren is strangely absent from the Harry Potter film franchise which has proven to be close to an act of full employment for great British actors. But she has found her own way in her magical world.
Dame Helen, as an Oscar-winning actor, Emmy and Tony, makes her quiz debut with “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Houses Tournament”. The weekly four-part series begins Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on TBS and Cartoon Network.
In the first episode, contestants representing the houses of Gryffindor and Hufflepuff answer questions about JK Rowling’s novels turned into films with the goal of winning a championship trophy and prizes.
Mirren left the cramming to the players and doesn’t care about being a novice game show host.
“I can definitely play a strict host,” she said funnyly in an interview with The Associated Press.

Mirren’s willingness to do something different shouldn’t raise eyebrows. She is celebrated for her royal roles – including “The Queen”, “Elizabeth I” and “Catherine the Great” – but also counts the Fast & Furious movie franchise among her various credits.
Her return to a comic book project is coming: she plays a mythological goddess in “Shazam!” Fury of the gods. Mirren’s baptism in the genre came with the movie “Red” and its sequel.
Mirren’s admiration for the Harry Potter series rings true.
“I’m always up for a bit of adventure. Also, of course, it’s a wonderful topic and at a great time, the 20th anniversary (of ‘The Wizarding School’, the first Potter movie),” she declared. “And the very fact that I’ve never been in a Harry Potter movie – much to my regret, I might add. It was a great way to be able to participate in the set of amazing Harry Potter phenomena. “
Mirren has been open about her feelings of never being a part of the movie franchise. “I’ve never acted in the ‘Harry Potter’ movies. I don’t know why,” Mirren told Access Online earlier this week, adding jokingly, “I’m pretty upset about it quite honestly.”

The special will arrive on January 1 and feature in-depth interviews and casting conversations and provide a behind-the-scenes look at how the franchise was made, according to a press release.
HBO released a trailer for the special in which we see flashbacks from the Harry Potter films and hear the voice of Albus Dumbledore say, “Mysterious thing, the weather. When in doubt, I find retracing my steps is a good starting point. “
Mirren told AP that she remembers “when the whole world of Harry Potter started to rise. The most magical thing is the way the books were passed from hand to hand among children, and adults. somehow didn’t know. It didn’t. like it was released with great fanfare. Most of the people who will be on (the show), they’ll be in their 20s, 30s, 40s , but they will already have experience with Harry Potter as a child. “
To take on the hosting gig, Mirren said she “thought I would play it by ear and be as natural as I can get. I’m personally very excited about this so hopefully I will communicate it. . I’ll probably be as nervous as the competitors themselves, and I’ll try to hide it. “
