Full list of candidates for Bradford Council election in May announced

THE full list of 141 candidates who will fight to win Bradford’s 30 council seats next month has been officially announced.

Local elections on May 5 will see a third of the Council House seats contested – one for each of Bradford’s 30 wards.

Bradford, like many councils, operates on an election cycle that sees each councilor face re-election every four years.

In three of the four years there is an election for one of the three seats in each Council ward, while the fourth year is free for election.

This year’s election will also see two referendums on the ballot.

Residents of Ilkley and Oxenhope will be asked to give their views on the newly drafted local plans for these two respective areas of the district.

The four main parties with seats on Bradford Council, the main Labour, Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and Green Party, field candidates in most wards.

The wards with the most candidates vying for the single seat are Keighley West and Shipley, where seven candidates will be pleading with residents for their vote.

Only two candidates will fight for the single seat in the city district.
