Dwayne Johnson to play Superman’s dog in ‘League of Super Pets’
Dwayne Johnson is already playing DC’s Black Adam in a movie – he’s now adding another DC Comics superhero to his resume: Krypto the Superdog. Superman’s furry best friend to appear in Warner Bros movie called League of Super Pets, which hits theaters next year.
According to Variety, the film “focuses on Superman’s dog, who teams up with a flying cat to stop crime while the Man of Steel is on vacation.” It’s presumably Streaky the Supercat, yet another animal sidekick Superman acquired during his nearly a century of fighting crime on the pages of DC Comics. (Streaky debuted in 1960; Krypto dates back to 1955.) The original “Legion of Super-Pets” (yes, that’s a real thing I didn’t just make up) included Krypto, Streaky, Comet the Super Horse and Beppo the Super Monkey. On television, Krypto also had his own short-lived animated series on Cartoon Network in the mid-2000s, where he also often teamed up with Batman’s canine companion, Ace the Bat-Hound, another potential actor in the film.
League of Super Pets will be Krypto’s first appearance on the big screen; he was excluded from all previous Superman films. (Imagine what Zack Snyder could have done with Krypto.) VarietyAccording to his article, “The studio is hoping to create a cast to bring the voices of the other two and four legged heroes and villains to ‘DC League of Super-Pets’. A-list casting? Okay, how about Brad Pitt in Streaky, Leonardo DiCaprio in Comet the Super-Horse and Tom Hanks in Beppo the Super-Monkey. Made. This is now a $ 1 billion Super Pets movie.
League of Super Pets is set to hit theaters on May 20, 2022.
