Does Supergirl replace Henry Cavill’s Superman in the DCEU?

With Sasha Calle joining the DCEU as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl in The Flash, what does that mean for Henry Cavill’s version of Superman?

With Sasha Calle joining the DCEU as Super girl, some might believe that it will replace that of Henry Cavill Superman. Flash will build on the iconic DC Flashpoint storyline with Barry going back in time to save his mother from murder. But in rewriting the past, Barry’s actions cause the entire universe to be rewritten as he returns to a different present. While the original comic book arc was mostly about time travel, the cinematic interpretation will be a mix of it and incorporate the multiverse.

Two of the biggest and earliest additions weren’t the return of one, but two different versions of Batman. Ben Affleck, who currently plays the DCEU’s Caped Crusader, will be joined by Michael Keaton, who starred in Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns. However, an unexpected character just added was Krypton’s last daughter with Calle as Supergirl, also known as Superman’s cousin. This will be the second time Kara has appeared on the big screen since 1984 Supergirl Movie with Helen Slater. However, the casting of Supergirl does raise some questions about what this means for Superman’s mythology in the DCEU going forward.

Cavill, who has played Superman since 2013, will soon reprise the role in Justice League by Zack Snyder. But despite previous reports saying he still intends to continue playing Man of Steel in the future, no further announcements have been made. Even Cavill isn’t sure if he intends to play Superman in future DCEU projects. As the DC Films division restructured its plans after 2017, it was reported that a Super girl the film was in development. Subsequent reports suggested that Supergirl was partially used to possibly replace Superman in the future. After Calle’s casting for Flash, a Super girl feature film is more possible than ever. But does that necessarily mean that Cavill’s Superman (although he doesn’t appear in the movie) is made after the events of Flash? This is a delicate situation because there are several aspects to consider.

Supergirl-Superman-DCEU

Supergirl’s role in Flash has not yet been clarified because it is still possible that it exists thanks to Flashpoint. Maybe when Barry rewrites reality, the reality is changed so that Supergirl is the one that escapes Krypton instead of Kal-El. This could be the result of when Barry initially breaks the timeline or after correcting it. But since Superman is one of DC’s greatest characters, it’s highly unlikely Flash will erase it completely from the DCEU. the Steel man The prequel comic introduced Kara to the DCEU, hinting that she may be currently alive somewhere on Earth. Whether or not Flash intends to build on the prequel comic remains to be seen for now. However, replacing Kara Clark is hardly where they go with this, even though Cavill should be done as Superman after the Snyder Cut.

Supergirl and Superman can both exist at the same time without a problem, as has been proven by comics and media like the Arrowverse for years. Kara getting her own movie or a big role in the DCEU doesn’t depend on whether Cavill returns to the Superman part or not. If Warner Bros. wants to see Superman and Supergirl together in future films, they can make it happen. Whether it’s with Cavill and Cella or a new actor as Kara’s cousin, it’s a whole different story. But Supergirl’s news isn’t a sign that Cavill as Superman (or the character himself) is somehow erased from the DCEU. In fact, it could mean that Warner Bros. wants to invest more with the Superman family by bringing Supergirl into the DCEU.
