This put the soap level with EastEnders, who also emerged victorious in four categories, including Best Comedy Performer for Tameka Empson and Best Newcomer for Ross Boatman.

Elsewhere, Coronation Street won three awards, Hollyoaks succeeded in two categories and Doctors went home with just one award.

Meanwhile, longtime EastEnders star Letitia Dean picked up the award for outstanding achievement thanks to her nearly forty-year run playing Sharon Watts – and was presented with her award by Anita Dobson, who played her mother Angie on the soap opera.

Phillip Schofield hosted the Hackney Empire live event in London, with a host of big names on hand to present the awards, which were split into categories voted on by fans and the panel.
