2022 Contenders Television – Live Stream, Schedule, Lineup – Deadline

Deadline’s Contenders Television kicks off the small-screen awards season in big fashion starting Saturday morning with a weekend-long in-person extravaganza that will see the stars and creatives of 48 hit shows take the stage at the Paramount Theater in Los Angeles.

We’re confident that you, like us, have pretty much had enough with all things Zoom, so we’re thrilled to be able to host so many great shows live and in front of you. Still, just in case, we’re offering a virtual version of the festivities that will feature nearly 150 panelists discussing their craft as Emmy season approaches.

Click here to register and watch the livestream.

As always, in person or online, you can follow all weekend on Deadline’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram channels via #DeadlineContenders.

How lucky are we anyway? The pandemic may have had a profound impact on how television was made in 2021, but there was still no shortage of shows that entertained and enlightened us. Everywhere we looked — from NBC and National Geographic to HBO and Paramount+ — there were new shows that served as happy reminders that you don’t have to remake old greats to create new ones. But that doesn’t mean we’ve declared a fatwa on reboots: major props for Morgan Cooper, including the fake trailer that reinvented the ’90s sitcom The prince of Bel-Air leads to the creation of drama Bel-Air on Peacock. We are particularly pleased to welcome star Jabari Banks to our stage this weekend; it’s the extraordinary talent who took over the very big shoes of Will Smith in this essential remake.

Do you ship Rip and Beth on Yellowstone? We have what you need; Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton) and Jefferson White (Jimmy Hurdstrom) will be on our stage on Saturday. And if you can’t get enough of Taylor Sheridan’s verses, the impressive cast of Yellowstone prequel 1883 – Tim McGraw (James Dutton), Faith Hill (Margaret Dutton), Isabel May (Elsa Dutton), LaMonica Garrett (Thomas) and Sam Elliott (Shea Brennan) – will also be present.

It’s been a promising year for comedies airing on television: ABC and CBS have shown that they can always bring laughs with new sitcoms Abbott Elementary School and Ghosts. Both shows join us, and we couldn’t be happier with their success. And in case you’d like your small-screen entertainment to be disturbing and unpredictable, we’ve got several panels that showcase the best of the weirdest of 2021: yellow jackets on Showtime, Dr. Death on Peacock, The hot zone: Anthrax on Nat Geo, Breakup on Apple TV and The White Lotus on HBO. (We know what you’re thinking: Wasn’t that a comedy? Let us remind you of the poo scene in the suitcase and wonder if you’re still chilled.)

Parting is always a sweet heartbreak, so we made sure to pay tribute to the greats who are leaving us this year. Pamela Adlon will share some parting words about her great FX past better thingsJason Bateman and Laura Linney will tackle the fourth and final season of ozarkand Bob Odenkirk and his team will share some final words on the end of You better call Saul.

More importantly, we’re here to stand up for disruptors — those shows that create stars and tell new stories that keep us glued to the screen. Are you planning that Emmy speech, Pachinko? We’ll ask executive producers Soo Hugh, Theresa Kang and Michael Ellenberg, plus actor Jin Ha, how it feels to be on the best new show of 2022. And speaking of award-winning talent, Viola Davis will be there. to talk about tackling her most important character yet – Michelle Obama – in Showtime’s anticipated limited series The first lady.

Nobody knows better than us how long it takes to browse all the big TV shows these days. Who has time to walk the dog or read a book? Pam and Tommy is on, for Pete’s sake! That’s why since our first Contenders panel, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to select the best of the lot for our Contenders series, so you still have time to take that walk with Butch. And really, no thanks is necessary. It is our privilege.

Deadline Contenders Television is sponsored by: AppleTV+, Eyepetizer, Final draft, Los Siete Misteriosand Michter’s. Partners include: Idle, Movie Al-Ula, Hotel Four Seasons Maui, Design Jason Mizrahi, ModMD, The American Pavilionand Tidelli.
